Athletics and Cross Country:

Running is a huge part of Stepaside Educate together It is led by our staff members, Sallie and Sonya. Athletics and Cross country running is open to all students, and is held every Thursday after school for one hour. The students intend to participate in the Marley Park run, charity events such as Darkness into Light and the Athletics events held in Morton Stadium, Santry, in the coming months.

Coding Club:

What is coding? Coding is what makes it possible for us to create computer software, apps and websites. Your browser, your OS, the apps on your phone, and this website – they’re all made with code. Coding, in the simplest of terms, is telling a computer what you want it to do, which involves typing in step-by-step commands for the computer to follow. The benefits of learning coding are enormous and include the development of problem-solving skills, computational thinking, persistence, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of a range of mathematical concepts and language.

SETSS students learn and practice coding through several programming languages such as Scratch, MakeCode and the Micro:Bit, Processing, Python, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. We make a series of video game and animation projects, which help students learn the core concepts of coding and computer science. Coding club runs on a weekly basis after school.

Chess Club:

Chess club is designed to give students an opportunity to learn the game of chess, improve their chess skills, and to enjoy competition against their peers. Novice players will be taught the basic rules, the value of pieces, and how to checkmate. More experienced players will learn different opening and defense strategies, various tactics, and will be given the opportunity to challenge themselves by solving chess puzzles. While students will have the chance to measure their progress through wins and losses against their peers, our main focus will be on encouraging good sportsmanship and on having fun.

The Chess Club frequently participates in external competitions. Last year, The SETSS Chess Team made it to the regional and National finals where they came 1st and 2nd respectively.
