On Tuesday, the 21st of January, myself as well as Jaidan and Amelie from First Year competed in the East Leinster Schools Cross Country Championships, at Avondale House, Rathdrum. Despite the rest of the students having the day off and getting a sleep in for a Teacher Training Day, we ran through mud and over hills, representing Stepaside Educate Together with style.
The second race of the morning was the Junior A Girls 2000m, during which I, Ciara WB from Third Year, took a break from study to compete alongside many of my training partners and fellow competitors from Club and County in a race that was much shorter than the typical distances we train for and compete in. The conditions were nice for racing in, with the rain and wind holding up until after the race had finished. I was happy with a solid 26th place amongst a strong field of athletes. Running was a nice change to my usual training as a racewalker, as part of the Leinster Performance Squad.
